For most, the idea of mail order brides is just too strange to consider. In the past, these women came from geographic areas that were well developed. They were looking to marry men who were going oversees to new colonies and areas that were in the process of being developed. Perhaps they were looking for adventure, someone to love; whatever the reason this seemed like a wonderful solution.

This is no longer the case. In fact it seems as though the trend is now completely the opposite. Girls who are struggling in countries that are under developed, are putting themselves on the open market looking for husbands who can give them a better life than the one they have now.

Some so strongly believe the only way to find a better life is to marry into it. And given that, this is a method that seems more than suitable for them. These marriages have been taking place for a very long time, although it is one form of nuptials we do not hear a lot about.

However, whether most have heard of it or not, this is a growing business with over two hundred companies in the United States alone. And these companies make very large profits for their roles in bringing the happy couples together.

Surprisingly, the divorce rate among mail order brides is quite a bit lower than those of traditional marriages. Some reports show that almost eighty percent of these unions last. Which seems odd, since there is no real courtship prior to the nuptials. So, odd as this may seem to some, for those who do choose to go this route, there does seem to be some success.
